Air-drawn Curvesfor Irish-harp ensemble c. 7'
Air-drawn Curves was commissioned by the University College Cork Irish-harp Society in 2005, and is dedicated to the new Lewis Glucksman Gallery in the University. The gallery is a striking structure of wood and glass, suspended over the River Lee, close to the main University gates. Its shape is defined by curves and angles and its windows draw you towards the river or towards the Aula Maxima at the heart of the old campus. The piece takes these elements and gives them musical form, becoming a journey in sound through the space. This leads to a cyclical structure with different elements appearing and reappearing, our perception of them changing as we view them from different perspectives.
