Casadh Aris
For dancer, 2 musicians, tape & film
c. 40'
Casadh Aris is a collaboration with choreographer Fearghus O Conchuir that mines our shared experience as translators to create a new intersection of dance and music. We were both brought up bilingually and share an understanding of what it is to alternate between two cultures, two points of view. Casadh is the Irish word for turning and for singing and in this work we turn around and sing to each other, telling and exploring as well as listening to and watching stories and movements. Filmmakers Chris Hurley and Max LeCain and bass player Dan Bodwell have added vital visual, sonic and human elements to create a performance piece which explores live, recorded and remembered energies and interactions.
Casadh Aris was commissioned by the Ionad Culturtha in Baile Bhuirne and premiered there in January 2009 before touring to An Rinn in Waterford and Lab na Mainistreach in Dingle, Co. Kerry.
