For twofor oboe, clarinet and trumpet
For Two, as the name might suggest, is a love song. It explores in abstract form the joyful and exhilarating emotions we all hope to experience at least once in our lives when one other person makes the rest of the world fade into insignificance. This piece was written at the Dartington International Summer School in August 2001 where I was awarded the Clifford Parker Bursary to attend the Advanced Composition Course led by Dr. Robert Saxton. It was written for Melinda Maxwell (oboe), Alan Hacker (clarinet) and Jonathan Impett (trumpet) who gave the work's first performance at Dartington. For Two is dedicated to Jason Dixon.
